Resumption of sit-in in front of Sarveet border port in Al-Mahrah

A sit-in committee of Howf district in al-Mahra province on Tuesday opened a sit-in in front of Sarveet  border checkpoint with the Sultanate of Oman to demand the departure of Saudi troops in the port.

The protest committee said in a statement that the resumption of the sit-in followed the failure of Saudi forces and the leadership of the authority to maintain the terms of the agreement reached in early May, which provided for the lifting of the sit-in in exchange for the withdrawal of Saudi forces from the port.

The Committee called on the Yemeni security services to carry out their duties at the border checkpoint and departure of any Saudi forces, which the committee accuses of harassing the passengers on the port.

Yesterday, the Howf sit-in committee called for the resumption of the sit-in in front of the port of Sarveet to demand the departure of Saudi forces from the port, asking security authorities to protect the sit-in and warning of any attack against the protesters.

Since the middle of last year, al-Mahra province has been witnessing tension  over the rejection of tribal components of Saudi military presence in the province.
